Restaurant Review: Indian Accent

There’s a new kid on London’s Indian Fine Dining block – Indian Accent, replacing what used to be Chor Bizarre on Albemarle Street. With branches already running successfully in New Delhi and New York, there has been a lot of excitement around this one.

It boasts a fancy setting, a set menu only instead of a la carte options and some very interesting vegetarian items on the menu such as the Puchkas, Five Waters, the Soy Keema, Quail Egg, Lime Leaf Butter Pao and Winter Vegetables, Sarson Ka Saag, Fenugreek Tart. Sounds tempting. But does Indian Accent live up to the hype?

While the effort and vibe are great, the food at Indian Accent did not particularly impress. Their tagline is ‘inventive’ Indian cuisine, but aside from the Baingan Bharta Parcels and Soy Keema with Quail Eggs, I felt Indian Accent are trying too hard. The concept is to infuse British ingredients with Indian food (done one too many times) but really, the food does justice to neither British nor Indian cuisine. Worth a visit but at a price tag of at least £55, I might just leave it as a one-time experience.
