Restaurant Review: La Mia Mamma

This summer, I stumbled upon La Mia Mamma – a cute, rustic Italian restaurant in the middle of Kensington & Chelsea, expecting to find the usual pizzas and pastas on the menu. I was pleasantly surprised to see mammas (mothers) from various regions of Italy cooking food they would serve in their homes, capturing the essence of ‘real’ Italy.

As I entered, I was greeted and seated by the warm, friendly mammas who served us freshly cooked Potato Cutlets on the house. For mains, I chose the dish of the day, the Lentil Spaghetti from the Mamma’s Menu, and Pasta al Norma from the Standard Menu – divine. I enjoy a little kick, so I happened to ask for chilli flakes. Right away, one of the mammas brought me a bowl of some of the most fiery dried red chillies I have ever tasted. Yum!

Naturally, it was time to sweeten those fired up taste buds. I opted for La Mia Mamma‘s Pistachio Tiramisu and Cannolo Siciliano Composto – both are to die for. The Cannolos come in threes and each one has a different cream flavour – my favourite has to be the orange one.

I have been back four times since its opening in June and the only time I did not enjoy is when I was seated downstairs. Room for improvement there but, other than that, an Italian food haven in the heart of London.

Tip: make sure you reserve in advance to visit on a Friday or Saturday night to enjoy the complete experience
