The Indian food scene in London has long been dominated by typical Punjabi fare (read: ‘curry’). However, the last couple of years have finally witnessed more regional food being introduced to the British palette. The latest to follow the trend is Chokhi Dhani, bringing the flavours of Rajasthan to town straight from Jaipur.

For starters, I love the fact that Chokhi Dhani (translated: “Fine Village”) is located in Vauxhall – it makes for a refreshing, spacious setting by the riverside. The majestic decor inside adds to the mood, with traditional Indian furniture bringing the restaurant to life.

Now for the best bit – the food. We tried the Kadak Momo Chaat (Crispy Vegetarian Dumplings) and Tandoori Florets, both of which were spiced perfectly. We then opted for the Maharani Thaali (a selection of 15 different vegetarian dishes). The Daal Baati Churma (Lentils and Bread, a Rajasthani classic) was par excellence. The only dish I would not repeat is the Paneer Sabzi on the Thaali, which was rather tasteless.
Last but not least, let’s talk about the desserts. We got the Baad Mein Medley, a selection of their desserts, including the Rose Creme Brûlée and Desi Mithai. The presentation: fantastic. The taste: outstanding.
